CLASSROOM/GRADING POLICY Vex Robotics I

Course Description:

Through a combination of lecture-demonstrations, hands-on projects and competitions
the students will acquire the skills to solve complex problems that involve: algorithmic
thinking, the engineering design process, and mathematics. Students will develop an
understanding of how robots are designed to solve practical problems. This course focuses
on writing code for the Vex Cortex platform using the ROBOT_C language. Emphasis is
also placed on the Engineering Design Process to familiarize students with identifying problems,
brainstorming ideas, proposing solutions, outlining strategies, scheduling, creating
prototypes, testing, and documenting. In addition, the Robotics Engineering Curriculum
will provide information and develop the basic skills required by students interested in
pursuing careers related to Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Information
Technology amongst other possibilities.

Attendance
It is mandatory as per school regulation. Because of the interactive nature of the
classroom, absences will seriously affect your performance throughout the course
therefore affecting your grade. You are responsible for making up any missing work due
to absences.

Participation
Your participation in class discussions and activities will affect that score positively or
negatively.

Tardiness
Tardiness is unacceptable; it is both rude to your classmates and me and it is disruptive to
the learning process going on in the classroom. Note that I will not remind you of this,
but I will keep track of those who repeatedly transgress and it will detract from your
participation grade in addition to detention.

Cellular phones
iPADs, kindles , tables, etc., are disruptive devices and should not be used during
class. No cell phones may be used AT ALL during class. Use of such device may
result in an automatic detention

Late work
Late papers and late assignments are unacceptable. A paper turned in after the due date
will automatically be marked down an entire letter grade. Assignments turned in more
than 24 hours late can be marked down further at the discretion of the teacher.
Exceptions can be made as the circumstances require.

Food in the classroom
No food will be allowed in the classroom at any time.
