Course Description

United States History II Honors is designed to examine historical personalities and events as related to cultural and national development from the 1890s to the present.  Content is presented conceptually within a chronological framework. Students will be afforded an opportunity to formulate a comprehensive understanding of history with an emphasis on the impact of change.  They will be responsible to not only read historiography, but to critically analyze it.  Knowledge of history is the precondition of political intelligence. Without history, a society shares no common memory of where it has been or what its core values are.  Students will gain an understanding of these principles through practical application of acquired knowledge and the utilization of diverse resources.

Grading Policy

Summative Assessments  = 50%

Formative Assessments = 40%

Personal Responsibility = 10%

Behavior Policy

Students must always follow the three cardinal rules of the classroom.  Failure to comply with these rules will lead to unfavorable consequences.

Rule #1 – Be Respectful.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.  Never be disrespectful to your classmates or staff.

Rule #2 – Be Honest.  Part of respecting someone is to tell them the truth.  If you have not completed your homework or are having trouble comprehending something in class I would rather you come and tell me the truth then make up a story.

Rule #3 – Be Responsible.  Make sure you come to class prepared every single day (Bring a notebook, pen/pencil, and/or binder).  Be sure that you are keeping track of your own grades.  Make sure your assignments are done on time, and also make sure to always take responsibility for your actions.

Make up Work

The policy for makeup work is as follows:  The day you return from any missed day from school you should pick up your make up work from the black bin in the back of the room.  It is also your responsibility to get the notes you missed from someone in class.  If you are either unable to gather the makeup work or the missed notes then please come see me so we can make other arrangements.  Barring certain circumstances, the number of days to make up your assignments will match the number of days you were absent.

Plagiarism / Cheating policy

I am highly against plagiarism and/or cheating.  If anyone is found to have plagiarized or cheated on any work assigned then they will receive an automatic zero for that work.  It would be best to come and see me if you have a problem with a due date or assignment than to try and copy or cheat and receive a zero.  The act of cheating/plagiarism breaks the three cardinal rules aforementioned.
