LESSON STANDARD:  WH.7 Analyze causes and effects of events and developments in world history from 1300 to 2010

 

LEARNING INTENTIONS: Apply your understanding of Europe's system of social & political feudalism during the Middle (Dark) Ages to analyze the causes of the Renaissance Era

 

SUCCESS CRITERIA: (I CAN:)

  • explain how the feudal system and the Church dominated life in Europe during this period.
  •  

    discuss the growth of trade and commerce in Italian city-states
  • connect the wealth generated from trade allowed for patronage of the arts and education.
  • describe the fall of Constantinople in 1453 and how scholars fled to Italy with ancient Greek and Roman manuscripts.
  • explain the concept of humanism and its impact on how people lived

LESSON STANDARD:  WH.7 Analyze causes and effects of events and developments in world history from 1300 to 2010

 

LEARNING INTENTIONS: Apply your understanding of the causes of the Renaissance Era to analyze the possible outcomes

 

SUCCESS CRITERIA: (I CAN:)

  • explain the causes of the Renaissance Era
  • discuss how humanism had lasting effects on the Renaissance
  • connect knowledge with power and curiosity
  • explain ways in which we see the impact of the Renaissance today

LESSON ACTIVITIES

1. bellringer--explain how the Renaissance started and why in Italy

2. Lesson Re-Cap (go over bellringer)

3. Note Topics:  art, science, Catholic Church, Martin Luther, printing press

4. cause/effect chart or 4W's

5. Introduce Renaissance Speed Dating Activity (begin research if time allows)

  • make connections between those impacts and the role of specific Renaissance thinkers/artists/inventors/scientists
  • evaluate the level of significance each of those people had in the Renaissance Era

Lesson Standard:  WH.2.2 Analyze the causes of the Protestant Reformation

 

Learning Intentions: Today you will learn the grievances, inventions, and people that started the Protestant Reformation

 

Success Criteria: I CAN:

1. Explain the role/actions of the Catholic Church prior to the Renaissance  

2. Understand the word "reform" 

3. Identify what happened (IDEAS/INVENTIONS) during the Protestant Reformation 

4. Analyze the complaints against the Catholic Church & how those ideas spread

  

Lesson Activities:

1. Bellringer 

2.  What is the Protestant Reformation?  (4W's who & what)

3. Analysis of the 95 Theses-group activity

4.  Reflection-SCC

1. Explain the role/actions of the Catholic Church prior to the Renaissance  

2. Understand the word "reform" 

3. Identify what happened (IDEAS/INVENTIONS) during the Protestant Reformation 

4. Analyze the complaints against the Catholic Church & how those ideas spread

2. Discuss the 95 Thesis from Monday
