LESSON STANDARD: WG.4 Describe how geographic tools, representations, and technologies are used in the study of geography.
LEARNING INTENTIONS: to be able to compare and contrast various types of map projections
SUCCESS CRITERIA (I CAN):
- in my own words, explain what geography is
- identify a political map compared with a world map
- recall my continents and oceans to label a world map
LESSON ACTIVITIES:
1. Bellringer
2. World Map handout; use textbook to label 7 continents & 5 major oceans (see what you can label without looking in the book)
3. Foundations of Geography PPT on map projections
TUESDAY 8/13 & WEDNESDAY 8/14
LESSON STANDARD: WG.4 Describe how geographic tools, representations, and technologies are used in the study of geography.
LEARNING INTENTIONS: to be able to compare and contrast various types of map projections and evaluate the reasons for map distortion in multiple map types
SUCCESS CRITERIA: I can:
- explain why the study of geography is important
- compare & contrast the similarities & differences
- explain why map distortion is always present
- practice and make a 100% on my Seterra map game
- use map skills & map keys to correctly answer questions
LESSON ACTIVITIES:

4. Complete SCC (reflection)
HOMEWORK: practice the Seterra for your world map quiz on Monday!!
THURSDAY 8/15 & FRIDAY 8/16
LESSON STANDARD: 9-12 SP2: use sources to analyze the meaning of words
LEARNING INTENTIONS: learn to formulate examples of geographical key terms using their meanings
SUCCESS CRITERIA (I CAN):
- Use the glossary & index of the textbook
- Write the definitions for the Unit 1 Key terms
- Formulate an accurate example for each key term using their definitions
LESSON ACTIVITIES:
1. Bellringer
2. play the Seterra Map Game until you make 100% (Class Notebook/Assignments)
3. Unit 1 Vocabulary-- student choice: complete paper copy OR in Word on your laptop
***DO NOT USE GOOGLE!! USE THE TEXTBOOK!!!***
4. Example Explanations: Be able to explain WHY your examples fit the key terms
