Hi parents and students!

Miss Daniels, my ULM resident for the year, and I are SO EXCITED to teach your child ELA this year!

A few important bits of information:

 Tiger Folders

Tiger Folders are yellow and are sent home EVERY Wednesday with your child's conduct and test grades from the previous week. Please review, sign, and return on Thursday morning. These will ALWAYS come home on Wednesdays unless stated otherwise from your child's teacher.

Curriculum

We follow the Louisiana Department of Education’s Guidebook Units. We will be reading several novels this school year. For each novel study, we will incorporate the following:

  • writing using The Writing Revolution (TWR) strategies

  • referring explicitly to the text for citing evidence

  • vocabulary in context and some vocab study guides

  • comprehension

We will also include cold read assignments, research, and group work.

THIS IS AN APPLICATION CLASS meaning that students will take the knowledge learned throughout different lessons and apply it to their section quizzes and cold read assessments. You will not see many study guides, but their ELA Notebooks will serve as an awesome resource for the skills we cover in class.

We will be doing a lot of cold reads this year to challenge your child and prepare them for the LEAP 2025 standardized test in April 2024. Important ELA terminology, class notes, and examples will be kept in their ELA Notebook.

ELA Notebooks

Each student will be responsible for an ELA Notebook. ELA Notebooks are to be kept in their zipper binders at all times. Not having the ELA NB each day will result in a conduct mark and missed class work. This notebook will be used in class daily for notes, writing, projects, and much more. It is very important that this notebook is not lost or forgotten because your child will lose valuable notes and information. I highly recommend each student review their ELA NB each night.
