Preschool Home Activities

October

Hard Works activities are tasks that require some sort of pushing/pulling that activates larger muscles and the receptors found in the joints.  These joint receptors are called proprioceptive receptors.  One way to improve body scheme (body awareness) is through sending increased information to these receptors. At home try these activities that are designed improve body awareness as well as tone and core stability.

  • When working on a project, have your child “deliver” your tools or materials to you by pushing them in a box.  Your child may kneel and push it or crawl and push it.

  • Have your child push a full basket of laundry to where it needs to be folded. Pulling the laundry, especially towels out of the dryer is also a great hard works activity

  • Make it your child’s job to push the chairs into the table after each meal or have him/her push the chairs out of the way when it is time to wash or vacuum the kitchen floor
