This is my 12th year at Monroe City School teaching Middle School Math.  I am extremely excited and anxious about this academic year.  This year brings us back together face-to-face in the classroom!  I am so happy for another opportunity of teaching my gifted students who are above average, active learners, and love challenges.    This year will be our best challenge EVER!

Academic success is the focus of my instructions with the hope that my students become a contributing member of the society in the future.  I firmly believe that whatever academic skills they learn from me will stay with them for life.  In addition, these skills are the very foundation that will help them become successful as they pursue higher education.

It is my priviledge to introduce myself to you.

My name is MARIA LEONILA SORIANO TAPALES PLATA and I am from the beautiful country known as the "Pearl of the Orient" - Philippines

My most recent visit to the Philippines....

June-July 2016...

June-July 2013..:)

I was awarded "TEACHER OF THE YEAR" of Cypress Point Elementary for Academic Year 2014-2015.  On the same year, I was chosen "DISTRICT TEACHER OF THE YEAR" for Monroe City Schools.

My students and I will not have a successful year if not for the support of the parents.  It is my plea therefore, to you dear parents, to allow me to help your child succeed.  Be there for your child, be there for me!  Together, let us do our best to keep them on task and on the right track.  I am proud to say that I have the necessary skills and knowledge to help our students achieve their fullest potential!  I can turn them into young mathematicians and scientists!  But I need your help.  You can contact me through e-mail [email protected] or give me a call  via Sallie Humble office.

One of life's most painful moments
comes when we must admit
that we didn't do our homework,
that we are not prepared.

This quote really inspired me to make my students

see the importance of HOMEWORK in life.

It might not be so important now while you are in school but later in life,

it is the most important tool to help you achieve your goal.

Homework is a reinforcement of the skills you learned in class.

Without reinforcement, mastery of the skill is impossible.

Look at Karate Kid, he did not win the fight by just showing up and fight!

He did his homework! He practiced the skills.....with passion.

Bottomline, doing your homework means you are prepared.

Being prepared equals success.
