Activities through play in the classroom:

*pretend to read a circular to decide what to buy

*pretend to write a shopping list

*pretend to follow the shopping list as items are purchased

 

 

Whole Group and Small Group Literacy:

*We are reading books about grocery stores and

how the characters in the books use lists to help them shop.

 

 

At home:

*look at food containers, such as cereal boxes, and talk about the letters they see

*look in circulars so your child can name food items by recognizing the labels

*make a list with your child of things you need to buy the next time you go shopping

*have your child help you check off the items on the list when you are in the store
