Welcome to 7th Grade Language Arts and Social Studies! My name is Mrs. Swanson (formerly Ms. Zacher) and I am looking forward to this year at Ridgway Middle School. This is my 7th year teaching at Ridgway! My goal for the year is simple, I want to inspire my students to achieve their individual goals, while having fun!

Here is a little introduction into who I am! I am a graduate of Moorestown High School and have lived in the area my entire life. I am a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree in English, and I finished my teaching certificate at Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey.  I finished my Master's degree in Special Education at Saint Joseph's University summer 2014. I am looking forward to another wonderful and inspiring year!

This year we will focus on several things. We read several novels and work in literature circles. We also have a brand new textbook that focuses on preparing students for the rigors of the common core! Some of the novels that we will read include, “Journey to Topaz,” by Yoshiko Uchida, “The Giver,” by Lois Lowry and “Hoot” by Carl Hiaasen.  We will also be focusing on fostering an enjoyment for writing and exploring all different genres of writing. We will start with a narrative piece, learn how to master the essay, and complete the year with writing a fairy tale! Everything is geared towards preparing the 7th grade students for 8th grade and beyond!

Social Studies is a brand new curriculum! I love being able to contect Language Arts and Social Studies and experience historical events like a story. We will dive in-depth and combine student interest with research.

I expect great things out of my students and I want my students to expect great things out of themselves!
