7th Grade Incentive Program
“Making Positive Decisions”
Dear Parents and Students,
The 7th grade team has a program designed to reward and promote positive behavior in our school. There will be rewards and celebrations this year for those students showing positive behavior and passing grades. Please note that students who have not been making positive decisions with their behavior will be placed on the 7th grade discipline list and will not be eligible for a reward or able to participate in celebrations. These students will work with a teacher or staff member on how to make better decisions. However, each student has the opportunity to change their behavior and become eligible for rewards and participate in future events. Also, students who are not passing their classes will not be able to participate.
The discipline list will work as follows:
-
1 detention = 1 strike
-
Each skipped detention is an additional strike (Students have two chances to serve their detention; however, 15 minutes is added to their detention each time for a total of 30 minutes).
-
1 referral = 2 strikes
-
5 strikes in a 30 day period = placement on the discipline list
-
If the student is already on the list and continues to get detentions/referrals then he/she will stay on the list and be in jeopardy of being unable to participate in the grade level celebrations.
-
If the student improves their behavior and does not receive any detentions or referrals within a 30 day period, they will be removed from the list.
Students on the discipline list can be in jeopardy of losing other privileges during the school day, such as assemblies, parties, movie rewards, field trips, any end of the year activity, etc., but they may still participate in after school clubs and sports. The teachers may inform the after school sports coaches and advisors to enlist their help. It will be at the coach/advisor’s discretion if the student will still be allowed to participate, because the goal of this program is to improve his/her behavior.
Hall Passes
Students are not permitted to pass through the hallways during the first ten minutes and last ten minutes of every instructional block.
Bathrooms will be unlocked during the times students pass from one instructional block to the next. During lunchtimes, the lunchroom bathrooms will remain open for students in the lunches.
Cell Phones
Per the MSP Student Handbook, students are not permitted to use their cell phones during the school day. If a student is using their cell phone during the school day, they will be issued a detention and further disciplinary action may be taken.
