Introduction to Guitar
Welcome to the performing arts elective Intro to Guitar. We are excited about this school year and hope you are as well. Please read the following with your parents to ensure a thorough understanding, which ensures our success.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
The guitar program at BRHS is new...and is growing! We are required to share instruments owned by the district. Multiple students will be utilizing the equipment every day, requiring everyone to do their part to ensure our instruments are cared for and can be used for any classroom activity planned for the class. There is no requirement to purchase your own instrument, but it is recommended if you develop an additional interest in music-making with the guitar. However, it is imperative that we maintain our equipment.
-Use only YOUR (assigned) instrument in class
-Assemble and replace instruments and other equipment daily
-Clean your instrument after every class
-If/When transporting instruments outdoors, use nylon cases (provided)
-If you wish to use personal equipment, we will assign lockers (if available)
-Time will be granted every day to proper care and maintenance
There is no textbook required for this course, but several online databases of music will be referenced. Please familiarize yourself with these resources, especially if seeking accessible and free or public domain sheet music.
PERFORMANCES and other PROJECTS
There will be a multitude of performance opportunities within the class curriculum, some live, some recorded; solo performances and ensembles alike. The purpose of this course is to gain familiarity with an instrument, and apply basic performance skills with that instrument...requiring all students to perform! However, there are no concert or performance requirements outside of classroom instruction. This is an introductory course, so we are not expecting perfection in any regard, simply a concerted effort to make music. Nonetheless, performances WILL factor into your grade, so be prepared!
