Course Description

Exploring Digital Art & Design is a studio course in which students will develop the ability to create and discuss digital works of art and animation. Emphasis will be placed on digital art, such as drawings, paintings, animation, technology (Surface Tablets, Photoshop, etc…) and other various techniques as a guideline for practice and theory. This course will focus on the elements and principles of design in the digital art world as well as the concepts of animation.

Course Objectives:
To help students develop critical thinking and design skills
To introduce students to the digital art and animation practices
To explore 2D and 3D digital design  
To help students develop good craftsmanship and skill in working with multiple mediums
To help students express their ideas in an effective, creative, and aesthetically pleasing manner

Class Expectations:
Arrive on time and ready work, or have a pass from your previous teacher
Respect others, the opinions of others, and the classroom environment
Demonstrate a positive attitude, and effort towards classroom work
Be attentive and stay on task
Perform all classroom activities in a responsible and effective manner
Participate in group activities and critiques
Use materials and equipment responsibly
Never remove tools, mediums or projects from the classroom without talking to the teacher first
Clean and wipe down your workspace, tablet, keyboard and pen at the end of every class


General Conduct:
Behavior problems will be dealt with on an individual basis. Continued infractions/warnings can result in a loss of computer privileges, and your grade will then be based on written assignments
Treat each other with respect.
No eating or drinking in the classroom near the computers, tablets, etc...
Talk quietly while working on projects, not during instruction time.
Do not misuse any tools or equipment, i.e. dropping surface pens and tablets.

*Treat a guest teacher with respect, and follow directions that are given for the day (written/drawing assignments are always graded).

Students are responsible for:
Generating and maintaining a digital portfolio of sketches and ideas for projects
Maintaining a digital folder (H:/ Drive and Google Drive) and Google classroom account
Checking for missed work and keep up to date with Google Classroom
Working/talking quietly and not disturbing others.  
Using school appropriate language and behavior
Taking responsibility for CLEANING their work area and equipment after every use.

Grading:
Grades will be based on the following percentages:

Assessments (projects, quizzes, written tests, presentations) ........................................................................70%           
Assignments (studio work, cleanup, use of materials, sketches, rough drafts, behavior and class work) ….................................30%

Students will be given a sufficient amount of time to complete all assigned projects.  Artwork may be exhibited throughout the school year in the high school and possibly at the end of the year district art show.
