7th GRADE SCIENCE SYLLABUS

Advanced Science and Silver Team Science 

 

Course Goals:

✔   You will explore topics in Biology, Ecology, and Physical Science through classroom/laboratory activities and assignments, textbook and supplemental readings, projects, and discussion.

✔   You will develop and strengthen problem solving, critical thinking, and creative skills.

✔   You will develop and strengthen the ability to communicate scientific concepts through writing and speech.

✔   You will apply scientific knowledge and skills to synthesize and evaluate concepts and questions.

 

Expectations*:

  1. Be punctual, prepared, and organized EVERY DAY.
  2. Copy assignments and due dates from the agenda board/Google Classroom EVERY DAY.
  3. Bring your science notebook, science folder, and pencil to class EVERY DAY.
  4. Your science notebook must be dedicated to science class only.  Work in the notebook will be checked regularly as an essential component of your marking period grade.
  5. Be an active participant.  Ask and answer questions.  Speak in discussions.  Volunteer for activities.
  6. Work cooperatively with your class mates and your teacher.
  7. Complete all assignments ON TIME.  Check Parent Portal (Infinite Campus) often.
  8. Listen and follow directions, the classroom rules, and the laboratory safety rules.
  9. Be responsible for yourself and your own learning.
  10. Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, and your teacher, the property of others, your school, and this classroom/laboratory environment.

*Failure to meet course expectations may result in a reduced classwork or participation grade or disciplinary action.

 

Evaluation Percentages:  Marking period grades will be calculated using a weighted average.

Challenge Grade:                70% (Tests, Quizzes, Lab reports & Projects)

Dedicated Student Grade    25% (Homework, Classwork/Notebook assignments, and Daily Points)

Raise Your Hand Grade        5% (Participation grade)

           

Laboratory Safety:  The safety of everyone requires your cooperation.

In order to participate in lab activities, you are required to sign and follow the safety contract.  Students who engage in horseplay, inappropriate use of chemicals or equipment, failure to follow directions, or failure to wear protective equipment will be subject to any or all of the following: loss of points for that lab, removal from laboratory and a grade of zero for that lab, disciplinary action, and contact of your parents/guardians.

 

Honor Code:

All work must be of your own mind and hand and in your own words.  Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated.  Expect disciplinary action and a zero.

 

Absences:  

a)      Check Google Classroom for missed lessons and assignments if you are absent. 

b)      If you are absent for one day, you will be expected to hand in missed assignments and makeup tests or          quizzes promptly upon your return. 

c)       If you are absent for multiple days or have extenuating circumstances, please see your teacher for          instructions.
