My Philosophy

Behavior Analysis is the core to all human learning. The functions and motivations of human behavior, while seemingly complex, are routed in very basic principles. But behavior is a layered network of interactions based on our experiences and it is crucial to understand a behaviors FUNCTION before we can begin to make changes.

Understanding function requires observing and assessing NOT the target or “inappropriate” behavior but rather understanding the variables cuing and reinforcing those behaviors. For example, if a student behavior is defined as ripping their test paper, I look to observe the possible conditions causing the student to act that way rather than observing the student “ripping” the test. Analysis produces questions like, “is the work to hard?”, “does the student have difficulty writing”, etc. and allows targeted preventative intervention versus reactive intervention.
