Academic Biology is a 5 credit lab science which introduces the students to the basic fundamentals of the biological sciences. The cellular basis of living things is emphasized as the unifying principle among living things. Major functional systems such as reproduction, cellular control, photosynthesis, respiration, and heredity are covered. Major units of study include: the history of biology, classification of animals, cytology, genetics, evolution, and ecology. Knowledge and math skills are developed thru laboratory work and vocabulary and spelling skills related to course terms are developed through reinforcement of terminology. Students are exposed to science related careers. Student grades are based primarily on tests, quizzes, homework, projects, labs, class participation, notebooks, and exams.
Grading Policy

Tests 30% will be given at the end of almost every unit

Quizzes: 20%will occur at different times throughout the units and can cover anything done in class, readings, or labs.

Labs 25% Lab Reports will be written for most labs
Homework/Classwork: 25% Homework comes in many forms. It can include worksheets, lab reports, current events, questions from the book, and other various assignments.

Homework is due the day after it is assignment unless otherwise stated.

Class work will be done in class and due at the end of the period.
