I am very excited to be your child’s first-grade teacher! My name is Mrs. Jacqueline Kensil. Since I will be spending a great deal of time with your child, I would like to take the opportunity to tell you a few things about myself.

This will be my 17th year teaching in West Deptford.  I received my degrees from Rowan University in Elementary Education and Liberal Studies of Mathematics  & Science.  In addition, I am certified and considered “highly qualified” in the field of mathematics in grades k-8.

Personally, I love to read! You can always find me reading a great book.  I read every night and hope to instill the same love of reading in your child.

Teaching is more to me than just a job, it’s a commitment. My goal and mission as a teacher is to dedicate myself to helping your child reach his or her full potential.  I have high expectations for your child since he or she will be learning many fun and interesting fundamental skills in first grade.

I will send home weekly newsletters to keep you informed about the curriculum and classroom updates.  Also, I use ClassDojo to keep in touch with parents on a daily basis.  I try and send pictures every week to let you know what we are up to in the classroom.

My Philosophy: I understand that your child comes to school with unique experiences, interests, and learning styles.  My goal is to get to know your child and use this knowledge to guide, support and motivate him or her.  I believe that good teaching requires continual professional development, personal reflection, and collaboration.  I value parent involvement at every level and encourage you to partner with me to give your child the most powerful and joyous learning experience possible.

I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us!
