Dear Sensational Second Graders and Families,

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Ackerman, and I will be your teacher this year.  Welcome to second grade!  I am SO happy that you will be in my class.  I am excited to have a great year filled with learning, sharing, and working together.  It is so wonderful how we become a "family" because together we listen, read, work and care for one another.

Please check the Crim website for the list of school supplies that you will need to bring to class.  If there is anything else that you choose to bring, be sure to label everything with your name.

Important! The following is a direction for you to follow.  Choose a folder, and write your name across the bottom.  In the center, label your folder "Classwork."  This will help save time in class.  I will have a Take Home folder waiting for you!

Along with your lunch, please remember to bring in a healthy snack every day.  We work hard and you will need the energy!

I hope that you are reading, writing, practicing your heart/flash words, and addition and subtraction facts each day, either by yourself and/or with your family.  If you haven't started, it's not too late!

We will have a morning meeting each day. On the first day, I will send you home with an All About Me bag to fill up.  This will help us learn more about each other.

I look forward to meeting you on Tuesday, September 2nd!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Warmly,

Mrs. Ackerman

P.S.  Here's a little extra to get to know me better:

I graduated from Trenton State College, which was renamed The College of New Jersey.  I started student teaching at Crim School and have been here ever since, more than 30 years!  My daughter, Lily, just graduated from Kean University with a master's degree. David, my son, is beginning his master's degree at Rutgers University.

We live in Morris County, but we like to spend our summers at my mom's shore house.  When there, we bike ride, take long walks, go for boat rides, paddle board in the lagoon, and keep our toes in the sand at the beach.  Can't wait to share my adventures with you and hear all about yours!

Below are a few of my favorite things:

Colors - purple and red

Drinks - flavored seltzer water and coffee

Food - anything Italian or Mexican

Ice Cream Flavors - almond turtles (chocolate ice cream, almonds and ribbons of caramel) and chocolate peanut butter

Season - summer

Hobbies - reading, shopping, walking with friends

School Subject - math
