Dr. Kathalyn Messano
I am excited to be a part of the Bridgewater-Raritan School District! This is a brief bio in case you are curious. It makes sense as an English teacher, in my spare time, I enjoy reading new books and writing. I look for any reason that I can find to write. If I look familiar, it could be because my twin sister, Dr. Shurina, is an 8th grade ELA teacher at the middle school.
I live in Long Valley, New Jersey with my husband and our two children, Richie and Addisyn. I am a dog mom to an adorable Shih Tzu Bailey, who loves toaster waffles and doesn't leave my side unless I am teaching and another little dog, Penny, who is tiny, adorable and awful.
I love teaching. I have been a reading and language arts teacher for 23 years. I cannot imagine a career that is more exciting. My favorite parts of teaching include helping students to love writing and matching students to reading material that they find challenging and engaging. I enjoy teaching so much that when I have spare time I also work as an adjunct in the English department at Raritan Valley, and I also teach graduate courses at Rutgers with the GSE. In the summer I am research coach for the National Writing Project located at Drew University.
When I have the chance, I love taking classes. I have a BA in English with a writing concentration, and an MA in Teaching from Fairleigh Dickinson. I also have a M.Ed in Educational Leadership from Seton Hall, and I completed my Ed.D. in Curriculum Leadership at Northeastern University. I love teaching at BRHS, and I am looking forward to our time together!!
