Physical Education Assignment Explanation/Expectations

 

 

Weekly Fitness Log

           

Students are expected to engage in weekly, required minutes in each of the following categories: Cardiovascular Exercise, Flexibility and Core Strength Exercises. Daily minutes shall be entered into the Fitness Log form found on the assignment section of OnCourse. Daily and weekly totals will be automatically totaled when entered. The form will be completed and turned in weekly each Friday afternoon via OnCourse.

Weekly minute requirements are as follows:

            * Cardiovascular Exercise/Activity:             90 Minutes

            * Flexibility:                                                    20 Minutes

            * Core Strength Exercises:                            20 Minutes

 

-          Examples of cardiovascular activities include, but are not limited to: Walking, running, bike riding, swimming, aerobics, body pump classes, or rowing.

-          Flexibility activities include, but are not limited to: stretching, yoga or Pilates.

-          Core strength exercises include, but are not limited to: crunches, sit-ups, jack knives, back-hypers, planks and burpees.

 

Video and Video Response Assignments

 

Exercise and subject matter videos will be posted each week. It is expected that students watch the video and complete the response questions in the assignment section on OnCourse. If the posted video contains a workout or exercise session, students will be required to participate in the workout in order to complete the responses. This required workout could be counted for minutes on the Weekly Fitness Log. If the video is informational, the students will view the video and compete the response activity. The completed response is due each Friday on OnCourse.

 

 

 

Video Artifact

 

Students will be required to record and submit a short 30-40 second video of them participating in their weekly required fitness activities. A video artifact should be submitted each week for the teacher to view and give feedback to the students. Students should ensure that they are dressed appropriately when recording their artifacts. The videos will be due each Friday on OnCourse.

 

 

Test/Assessment

 

A formal assessment will be given each 6-week grading period. These tests will cover various areas and components of physical fitness, exercise and health topics. Study guides will be given in preparation for the tests and the information will be covered and reviewed during Zoom sessions. The study guides will be posted on OnCourse  by the teacher. Tests will be administered on OnCourse and will be given on the Friday of the 5th week of the 6-week grading period.

 

 

***Additional assignments may be required upon teacher discretion. Ensure that you are checking OnCourse and student email, in addition to participating in daily Zoom meetings in order to stay informed.
