Here are some web sites that we have used in the classroom to reinforce reading strategies and skills.  These websites are safe. But, as always, please check any websites for errors and or inappropriate content before you let your child use them.  If you find any websites that don't work, please let me know. I will try to update, remove and add websites as the school year progresses.

We have tried to sort these websites into approximate grade levels, but many cannot easily be placed into one level because they cross several grade levels. Please look these websites over before you let your children go to them to see if they are appropriate for your child.

 
http://www.janbrett.com/The author’s home page includes many activities related to reading, writing, and art. Very artistic. K-3 

http://pbskids.org/ Kids love to play these games because they are linked to many familiar shows on TV.  They also seem to be educationally sound. The skills reinforced include: vowel sounds, synonyms, word relationships, and the alphabet. There are also stories, video clips, and audio downloads. K-4

http://www.gamequarium.com/ The site that is swimming with learning fun! PreK-6.

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.htmlMany activities related to holidays and learning in general.  Many craft ideas also included. K-5

http://www.starfall.com/ Primarily for first graders or Kindergarteners learning to read, but has many activities that older kids can enjoy also. Offers several interactive games that range from learning the ABC’s to plays and comics for independent readers. K-2

http://www.sesameworkshop.org/home The characters from Sesame Street are here to help students with reading skills. This is especially good for primary students working on basic skills such as pattern recognition and letters. K-2 

http://www.storyplace.org/ Online digital library, stories and activities for children young and old.  Preschool and elementary. 

http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stacks/ This site has links to various literacy activities. Many familiar books and characters engage learners. K-5 

http://www.dositey.com/2008/index.htm?&page=free_activities The games here are best for reinforcing phonics and grammar skills. While this site is most appropriate for younger kids, there are some activities available for students grades 3 – 8.  The games are fairly simple – no fancy graphics.

 
http://www.professorgarfield.org/pgf_home.htmlA very high quality website. The games are graphics are as good as many of the recent software games available. Due to the quality of these games, a high-speed Internet connection is required. The skills available on this site include syllables, blending, rhyming, segmenting, and deleting/substituting. K-2

http://www.storylineonline.net/ The Screen Actors Guild on-line streaming with famous actors reading children’s books aloud with accompanying activities. K-6
