Welcome to Kindergarten! – Kinder – Blanca E. Sanchez Elementary

Mrs. MacMillan

Hello Kindergarten Families!

I am so excited to get to know one another and begin this year's journey with you! I am your teacher in your kindergarten classroom.

First let us introduce ourselves!

My name is Kim MacMillan, and this will be my 21th year teaching in Washington Township Schools.  Outside of school I have been busy helping Mr. Mac with home projects & catering, exercising, enjoying reading books while soaking up the sun poolside, and spending time with  friends and family. I live close to the area with my husband Scott and our daughters Sarah, Keira and Allie.

I believe that every child is unique and brings something special to our class. Each student’s social-emotional and academic growth is very important to me.  This year we will celebrate the similarities that build connections and the individualities that encourage respect and curiosity to learn new things. You will be amazed at how independent your kindergartner will become this year! Goals will be set for your child to reach and we will provide encouragement and support for them to gain confidence. Together we will celebrate their accomplishments.  My main hope is for each student to be comfortable in kindergarten as we foster independence and life-long love for learning.

There will be many different components to the school year.  In kindergarten we balance hands-on activities (such as  learning tools, toys, paper/pencil, etc.) and technology to create a rich, experience-filled learning environment. I will introduce everything as I go so that I do not overwhelm students and families.

Here are a few ideas to help your new Kinder kid get ready for school:

  • Ask your child about something from their summer that they would like to share with the class.

  • Talk to your child about what they want to learn and hopes for the school year.  What do they hope kindergarten will be like?

  • Start about a week before school, help them get on a school schedule, (sleep, dressing for the day, eating breakfast before school time). This way they will be well-rested and have a great start to the year!

I have attached the school supply list to make your shopping experience easier.  (See the side bar)

Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me! I will do my best to answer any questions or find someone who can!

Information for getting started in kindergarten will be available at Back to School Night, Septemebr 11th @ 7:30 for Kindergarten classes. Here I will share important announcements and information with you as the school year rolls out.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

See you soon!
