Chapter 10 Probability and Statistics7th Math

Week 2

The following list is due by Monday, May 17th

CC1 Calculate mean, median, mode, and range

CC7Identify an outlier

DD4 Experimental Probability

DD5 Make predictions using experimental probability

DD6Make predictions using theoretical probability

Vocabulary

Outlier: one piece of data that is not close to the others.  It’s VERY far away

Mean: Average of the data set.  Add up all the numbers, and divide by how many in the data set.  The Mean isn’t normally a number in the data set.

Median: Put all the numbers in order.  Find the number in the EXACT center.  If two numbers are in the middle of the data set, add them up and divide by 2. The Median doesn’t have to be a number in the data set.

Mode: The number, or numbers, that occur the most often.  There can be 1 mode, multiple modes, or No Mode.  If there is no mode, do not write “zero” because that is a number, instead write NONE.

Range: The distance between the Maximum number and the Minimum number in the data set.  It is ALWAYS a positive number, because it talks about distance.
