My name is Sherry Scott. I am currently the eighth grade math teacher. I teach one 8th grade math class and one eighth grade algebra class. This year I am assisting with the 6th grade advanced math class. This is my 32nd year as a math teacher. I started out teaching high school math in a very large district. I have been at Tighe School for twenty-six years now. I absolutely love my job. I am a proud member of the excellent math department. I am one of the coaches for the cross country team. I am also the Math Competition Advisor which means that I am the head coach of the MathCounts and Mathletes teams throughout the year. Being a co-advisor of the THINK Day team along with Senorita Magel is a lot of fun. I have been a homework club advisor on Tuesdays after school for it seems like forever. Lastly, this is my fourteenth year serving as an officer for the Margate Education Association.
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I started off with a love of math at a very young age frequently tutoring my friends in fractions starting in 4th grade. I graduated 5th in my class from Hammonton High School. I received my bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1993 from Rowan College of New Jersey and acquired my master’s degree in instructional technology in 2001 from Stockton State College. That master’s program allowed me to jump into the technology era. I also earned an additional thirty graduate credits from Chapman University in 2008 and 2009.
On a personal note, I have a much laid back, happy family life. I spend a lot of time with my immediate and extended families. I am fifty-three years old and have been married to my high school sweetheart for thirty-one years. My husband, Kevin, works at the FAA Technical Center. I am the proud mother of one pretty spectacular twenty-seven year old young woman named Cassidy. She is currently employeed at EY in Charlotte, NC as a global financial services consultant. She was just promoted to manager level 2 and built a new home. My hobbies include traveling, hiking, watching sports, reading, solving puzzles, exercising, playing pickleball and just spending time with close friends and family.
