My name is Sherry Scott. I am currently the eighth grade math teacher and teach one regular eighth grade math class and two eighth grade algebra classes. This is my twenty-seventh year as a math teacher. I started out teaching high school math in a very large district. I have been at Tighe School for twenty-one years now. I absolutely love my job. I am a proud member of the excellent math department. I am one of the coaches for the cross country team. I am also the Math Competition Advisor which means that I am the head coach of the MathCounts and Mathletes teams throughout the year. This year will be my first year as a co-advisor of the Think Day team. Lastly, I am a homework club advisor one day a week after school.
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher. I started off with a love of math at a very young age frequently tutoring my friends in fractions starting in 4th grade. I graduated 5th in my class from Hammonton High School. I received my bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1993 from Rowan College of New Jersey and acquired my master’s degree in instructional technology in 2001 from Stockton State College. This master’s program allowed me to jump into the technology era. I also earned an additional thirty graduate credits from Chapman University in 2008 and 2009.
On a personal note, I have a much laid back, happy family life. I spend a lot of time with my immediate and extended families. I am forty-eight years old and have been married to my high school sweetheart for twenty-six years. My husband, Kevin, works at the FAA Technical Center. I am the proud mother of one pretty spectacular twenty-two year old young woman named Cassidy. She is currently working at EY in Charlotte, NC as a financial services consultant. My hobbies include traveling, hiking, watching sports, reading, solving puzzles, going to the beach, exercising, and just spending time with close friends and family.
