N. Arena's Classroom Policy

 World Geography

Classroom Rules :

  1. Enter classroom quietly, be seated before tardy bell rings and prepare to begin the   assignments.
  2. Do not ask to be excused to go to the restroom, during the first and last 15 minutes of  class.                  Abuse of the privilege will result in the loss of the privilege.

   3.  Bring materials to class.

   4.  Place extra items, such as, books, bags, purses, etc. inside or under desk.

   5.  Record and answer the daily bell ringer.

   6.  Be attentive and participate during the class period.

   7.  Do not disrupt the teaching/learning process.

   8.  Treat everyone with respect.

   9.  Do not use profanity.

  10.  No eating, drinking, or chewing gum!!!  Items will be placed in trashcan.

  11.  If a student is doing something that is inappropriate, such as, looking at a catalog, brushing

         hair, homework for another class, etc., the item(s) will be placed in my drawer for 2 weeks

         or forwarded to the office.

  12.  Remain seated until dismissed.

 

Testing :

   *  Cheating = a grade of zero (0).

   *  If a student copies another student's homework, both will earn a grade of  zero (0).

   *  While testing, all students must remain quiet until every student has completed the

       assignment.  Talking, looking around and moving around the classroom are not

       allowed.  

   *  Points will be deducted from assignment if heading is not completed properly.

   *  Make-up Test - When absent, students are responsible to make-up assignments. Make - up tests,

       quizzes, or assignments will be given in the morning before school begins, on Tuesday and Thursday. 

       I will arrive at 6:30 a.m.  Tests, quizzes, and assignments must be made up within 5 days of a

       student’s return.  Make-up tests may differ from original. There are no make-ups for oral quizzes,

       and most other types of quizzes.

   *  Assignments will not be collected late.  Students will earn a grade of zero (0).  

       exception – maps

   *  Cell Phones -  Having cell phone that is visible or turned on is considered cheating.  Student

       will earn a grade of zero (0).

   *  Apple Watches and others that are similar -  Students are not allowed to wear this type of

       watch during a test, quiz, or graded assignment.  The watch must be given to me prior to

       beginning of a test, quiz, or graded assignment.  Students are responsible to remember and

       give the watch to me.  If the student does not give the watch to me, the student will

       earn a grade of zero (0).  Once all students have completed the test, quiz, or graded

       assignment, the watch will be returned.

   *  Any student of mine, who is involved in transferring or accepting information via cell

       phone, i watch, etc., will also earn a grade of zero (0) on the test, quiz, or other graded

       assignment related to the lesson.

Discipline Plan 

      1st Offense   -  Verbal Warning

      2nd Offense  -  Student/Teacher Conference (short meeting with student after class)

      3rd Offense  -  Letter / Phone Call to Parent

      4th Offense  -  Office Referral

 

*  Additional Offense will result in additional referrals.

 

*  A corrective assignment may be assigned for minor offenses (examples - not going to assigned

    desk after entering the classroom, chewing gum, eating candy, profanity, etc.).  Incomplete

    corrective assignment will result in a pink slip. Pink slips are sent to the office.

 

Grades

  1. Performance Grade - Students have a performance grade 675 points (15 points X 45

      days).  Points are deducted, based on the following:

  1. not ready to begin assignment (s), tardy, and leave classroom (ex. restroom)

         B.  does not bring materials

         C.  does not participate

         D.  improper behavior, does not follow instructions

         E.  eating, drinking, chewing gum or leaving trash inside or under desk

4.  Textbook Assignments

5.  Map and Map Tests - Students will receive an outline map and specific instructions for its

     completion regarding every region of the world.   A map test will follow.

      ***  Maps are the only assignments that I will accept late.  For each day that a map is late, 30

             points will be deducted.

7.  Video Quizzes

8.  Project Assignments

***  A pencil is mandatory for tests (scan sheet).  A pencil may be purchased for $.25.  I do not

       lend pencils.  You may borrow a pencil from a student prior to the distribution of tests.

***  Assignments are not accepted late, except maps.

***  There is no extra credit work.

   -  pen

   -  pencil

   -  highlighter

   -  1 - l subject notebook

   -  large notebook

   -  loose leaf paper

   -  pocket folder / binder

   -  Ultra - fine  sharpie marker ( blue, red, green & black)

   -  Colored pencils ( not crayons or markers )

   -  box of tissue

   -  Germ-X or wet wipes

   -  $ 5 class fee
