The Quiet Area
The Quiet Area is an important place in our classroom. It’s a cozy spot for children to have privacy and comfort while they manage their emotions. Whether children are tired, not feeling 100%, sad, or angry, the Quiet Area is a place they can go to feel better.
Our Quiet Area includes a pillow, a soft blanket, stuffed animals to snuggle with, a sand timer, a mirror, and sensory items, like glitter bottles, squeezy toys, and gel pads. These are very soothing for upset children. We also have pictures or emotions, solution cards, the relaxation thermometer, and a breathing chart. We learn about and review our techniques for problem solving and calming each day.
Our Social Story “Tucker Turtle Takes Time to Tuck and Think” is also included in our Quiet Area.
