3 Week Emergency Plans in the event of immediate school closings

Below is your school work for 3 weeks in the case of an emergency closing.  Plan on working on each project for each subject area for at least 40-50 minutes each school day.  All completed projects are to be returned with you upon your return to school.

Week 1
Math:

Project #1:  Using the website of www.ixl.com you are to practice each of your math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division) daily for at least 20 minutes.  Once you have finished practicing your facts, you should play math games on this site.  Try to increase your speed when practicing your facts!  Have fun!

Language Arts - Reading Comprehension:
Project #2:   Select a fictional book to read on your reading level with at least 50 pages.  Once you have finished reading the book, complete a storyboard for the book.  Remember to fold your paper into 8 boxes.  Each box should include an illustration & a caption.  Remember…box 1 is the title, box 2 is for the characters, box 3 is for the setting, and boxes 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 are for the plot.  Be sure to include problem/solution, or beginning, middle, and end in the plot boxes with interesting details.  All the work on the storyboard is to be neat & completely colored.  Have fun!

Language Arts - Writing:

Project # 3:  Keep a daily writing log/ journal of what you are doing to pass the time while you are home from school for each school day.  Include any fun & interesting places you go.  Include any short stories you wish to create.  Google “writing prompts”…LOTS of topics and ideas for you to write about can be found on-line.

Science/ Social Studies:
Project # 4:  Select a non-fiction book to read about an animal, historical figure, or a planet.  Once you have finished the book, write a summary.  The summary must include at least 5 interesting facts you learned about your topic.  It must also include why you selected this topic & your opinion of the book.   Then using materials you find around your house, make a model or a poster of your topic.  Be creative & have fun.

Week 2

Math:

Project #1:  With a budget of $150.00, you are to plan a week (7 days) worth of groceries for a family of four.  You must plan for breakfast, lunch, dinner, & at least 1 snack each day of the week and all the food must be nutritional.  You should use local store sale ads & a calculator to help you plan your meals & give you an idea of cost.  You must have menus for each day along with the cost of each day. Remember …you must stay under $150.00 for the entire week!  Plan on using the items that are on sale for that week to help you stay within your budget!  Have fun!

Language Arts - Reading Comprehension:
Project #2:   Select a fictional book to read on your reading level with at least 50 pages.  Once you have finished reading the book, write a summary using the "Somebody wanted But So Then" strategy to retell the story briefly.

Language Arts - Writing

Project #3:  You are planning a surprise party for a family member’s birthday!  Including yourself, you have a total of 12 guests attending.  You must design & make an invitation with a theme of your choice.  Since the time of the party is 4:00-8:00 pm, you must include something for your entire guest list to eat & drink.  Be sure to include cake & ice cream for dessert.  The birthday boy or girl will also need to have a present, and your guests will expect to go home with a party favor.  Have fun!

Science / Social Studies:

Project #4:  Read the newspaper or magazine daily or go online to access the newspaper.  Select 3 articles that you read & write a summary of the articles.  Be sure to include in the summary your opinion and how you feel this article topic affects your daily living.  Print them or cut them out or print and attach them to your written summary.
