3 WEEK EMERGENCY PLANS:  (please try to follow these plans on your own if for some reason school is closed for an extended period of time.)

Reading:

Lexia:

You should work daily for at least 20 minutes on Lexia.  Work at the level you left off on. If you encounter problems, use the resources available to better understand. You should also email me and let me know so I can set up a time to work with you.

IXL:

You should work in IXL daily.  You should do any IXL assignments your classroom teacher assigns. You may do your Skill Plan for ELA if your teacher does not give you an assignment.

Reading a book daily is the best way to keep up your reading skills, and it's FUN too!!

Remember you have access to Epic at home. You can always use the online books and take the end-of-book quizzes.

 You may also:

Select a book of at least 100 pages.  Read it, and every 20 pages or 1-2 chapters write a summary of what is happening and predict using your inferencing skills to determine what you think will happen in the next chapter/chapters. When you are done the book, do two of the following:
-a 1-3 page book report about the book
-a diorama about your favorite part of the book
-write a new ending of the book (at least 1 page long)
-a movie poster of the book including the narrative elements and a one-paragraph story summary
-design a new book cover including the narrative elements on the front and a one-paragraph story summary
-create a comic strip about the book
-read another book by the same author and compare the books

Writing:  Work on a Monthly writing journal and journal every other day. Write about how you are filling your days, your feeling about not being at school, and any great stories you have.

Project #1:  With a budget of $150.00, you are to plan a week (7 days) worth of groceries for a family of four.  You must plan for breakfast, lunch, dinner, & at least 1 snack each day of the week and all the food must be nutritional.  You should use local store sale ads & a calculator to help you plan your meals & give you an idea of cost.  You must have menus for each day along with the cost of each day. Remember …you must stay under $150.00 for the entire week!  Plan on using the items that are on sale for that week to help you stay within your budget!  Have fun!!

Math/ Language Arts

Project #2:  You are planning a surprise party for a family member’s birthday!  Including yourself, you have a total of 12 guests attending.  You must design & make an invitation with a theme of your choice.  Since the time of the party is 4:00-8:00 pm, you must include something for your entire guest to eat & drink.  Be sure to include cake & ice cream for dessert.  The birthday boy or girl will also need to have a present, and your guest will expect to go home with a party favor.  Have fun!

Be sure to include at least one recipe form the newspaper, a magazine,  the Internet or TV that you would want to fix "from scratch" for the party.  List all the ingredients and the cost of making it for the party.  Remember most recipes are for 4-6 people, you will need to double or triple the amounts and cost for your party.

Math:

Project #3:  Using the website of IXL  or www.coolmath4kids.com you are to practice each of your math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, & division) daily for at least 20 minutes.  You must print out the last screen which states the number you had correct.  Once you have finished practicing your facts, you should play math games on this site for at least 20 minutes.  Try to decrease your speed when practicing your facts!  Have fun!

Science: Read a nonfiction book on a science topic and research the topic on the Internet and then write a report about it.
You may also visit science websites for additional activities.

Social Studies: Find 2 articles in the newspaper and read them, write a summary about the current event and then add 1 or 2 paragraphs about how you feel, your response, and/or an idea this article gave you.
You may also visit
www.benguide.gpo.gov and NatGeoKids to review skills and facts.  Please print out a page as proof of your visit to the site.
