I believe that parents are the first and most important teachers in their child's life.  With this in mind, as your child works on new skills I will be sending home materials for home practice. Practice at home is intended to be quick and easy (approximately 5-10 minutes).  Every student enrolled in the speech-language program is provided with a speech folder. The folder contains homework activities used to enrich the skills that are being practiced in speech class. Additionally, updates on your child's progress will be provided intermittently in the session note that is completed weekly. With your help, we can have the greatest impact on yor child's communication skills and have fun doing it!

Please practice speech-language skills daily.

  • Parents/ caregivers are asked to practice the speech homework with their child.  Parents can provide positive feedback and model the correct form of targeted speech sounds, fluent speech, vocal quality and/or language skills (vocabulary & sentence structure).
  • Please initial the homework assignment after completion.  Preceding every therapy session, I will check each student's homework.  If you have any questions or would like to make a comment regarding your child's progress during homework practice, please feel free to leave a note in his/her folder, write a note on the back of the homework page or  on the comment section in his/her session note.
  • Practicing targeted goals with a variety of communication partners (i.e. SLP, teachers & parents) and in multiple settings have been found to increase generalization of new skills.
  • Upon completion of each homework assignment and signature from parent/caregiver, students will receive a sticker which will be placed on their homework chart.  When a row of stickers is filled, he/she may choose a prize from the treasure chest.
