Dear First Grade Families,

Welcome to first grade! I am very excited to get to know all of you and begin what I know will be a wonderful school year together. I hope the following information helps you and your child feel prepared for the year ahead.

Our school day begins at 8:45 AM, with the late bell ringing at 8:55 AM. It’s important that students arrive on time so they have a chance to settle in before we begin our lessons. The school day ends at 3:15 PM, with students in aftercare and walkers dismissed first.

We will follow a Monday–Friday specials schedule.

  • Monday: P.E.

  • Tuesday: Library/Technology and P.E.

  • Wednesday: Art

  • Thursday: P.E.

  • Friday: Library/Technology and Music

On P.E. days, please have your child wear sneakers or pack a pair to change into. On Library days, please be sure to return any borrowed books so new ones can be checked out.

Each morning, we will have a brief snack time. Please send in a healthy snack, such as fruit, vegetables, crackers, or pretzels. Keeping snack items separate from lunch items can help your child find them easily when it's time for snack.

Your child will bring home a Take Home Folder every day. Please make a habit of checking this folder each evening and removing any completed or reviewed work. This helps keep things organized and ensures you don’t miss any important communication from school. Also, don’t forget to send back the student information sheet that was sent home on the first day of school.

If your child’s dismissal plan changes at any time, please make those notes in Powerschool. If the change happens during the school day, be sure to notify both the main office and me via email to ensure the change is communicated in time.

Our P.T.O. does a fantastic job of supporting our students and teachers through special programs and events. I encourage you to consider getting involved in their efforts this year. Here is the link

We will celebrate student birthdays in a special but simple way this year. Each birthday child will receive a birthday crown and be celebrated with a song during our morning meeting. If your child would like, they may bring in their favorite book to be read aloud to the class. You’re also welcome to come in and read the book yourself on your child’s birthday!

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your support and cooperation—I am truly looking forward to a fun, engaging, and successful school year with your children.

I also hope to see you at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 25th from 6:15 PM – 6:45 PM.
