TEXT:

Various texts will be assigned throughout the school year, including but not limited to The Crucible, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Catcher in the Rye, Forgotten Fire, Julius Caesar, poetry, and various short stories.

 

GRADING:

Grading will occur on various assignments including writing, discussion responses, public speaking, group work/projects, journal responses, tests, quizzes, presentations, daily class participation, and online grammar assignments. 

 

 

Major assignments grade:

  • Tests - Projects (30%) 

(papers/essays, and presentations)

  • Quizzes (15%)
  • Class Work/ Homework (25%)

(Participation is online and in class daily.)

  • Word of the Day:  (15%)

If you have any questions or concerns about your grades or an assignment, make an appointment to speak to me after class, during lunch, or immediately after school.

(The grading scale may change during the school year.)

ASSIGNMENTS

 

  • All assignments are due at the beginning of the period. Assignments submitted mid or at the end of the period will not be accepted.
  • Follow guidelines and directions when completing assignments. Failure to follow guidelines will result in a lowered grade.
  • Failure to turn in assignments promptly will result in a zero. Don’t wait till the last minute to complete assignments/ projects! Use a planner and keep organized. I realize that you may have a busy schedule, so plan ahead.
  • I will not pursue you about missed work; you must check your planner, check with your fellow students, and get any notes or explanations from a trusted classmate.



LATE WORK POLICY

 

Daily assignments/ Classwork

If you are absent, you are required to hand in the day’s work when you return. See me regarding missed work.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS - May only be submitted one (1) day late.

All Major Assignments (when applicable) will go down one letter grade per day unless otherwise indicated. No credit after 3 days. Major projects, essays, and presentations will be assigned well in advance. These assignments will be due on time whether you are present or not. You must make arrangements to get the assignment to me or email it when it is due.

 

RULES


Be respectful! Show respect to everyone and everything!

Be on time! You must be in your seat ready to work when the bell rings.

Be prepared! Bring your notebook, writing utensils, and books to class every day.

Additionally, all school policies must be followed. Be sure you are familiar with the rules in your student handbook. You will be held responsible for them.

 

DISCIPLINE POLICY FOR RULE VIOLATION


Discipline includes verbal warnings, teacher/student conferences, phone calls home, school detention, and referrals to the vice principal’s office.
