Welcome to freshmen year! This year, as freshmen, you will continue to utilize Big Picture Learning Goals and will tailor individual assignments around these goals. In advisory, students will study diverse areas of learning at MetEast, most notably Communications and Social Reasoning. In Communications, students will be encouraged to read, write, speak, and listen effectively. They will be asked to articulate their ideas in the advisory setting. In Social Reasoning, students will be asked to analyze issues in society from different perspectives. They will be encouraged to think historically and culturally, look at diverse viewpoints, research, analyze social systems, discuss ethics, and take action in the community. Additionally, students will be exposed to Quantitative Reasoning in Advisory through various word problems and projects, which push students to apply mathematics in their everyday lives.
This course will be comprehensive as it covers multiple subject areas through group lessons, individual and collaborative projects, and personalized learning centered on each student’s learning plan. Organization and time management will be crucial to each student’s success. Students must constantly enter deadlines and goals into their Supercalendar and check faithfully to ensure that these deadlines and goals are being met.
The ultimate aim is to help students become responsible young adults who are driven by a thirst for knowledge and commitment to following their passions for the purpose of attaining academic and personal achievement. At the culmination of this school year, students will be well on the way to preparing rigorous projects. Each learner will also be headed on the path to being an individual who is capable of handling a college workload and becoming a person who is confident and prepared for success after high school.
