Reading
Activities Practiced in Class to Promote a More Fluent Reader
- Students will practice fluency by reading Fry's phrases. Teacher will provide students with phrases and students will individual read, choral read, round robin read for fluency practice
- Students will understand level-appropriate sight words and vocabulary.
The students will read and reread a list of commonly used phrases. Teacher and students will talk about them. Teacher will model reading the story with expression. Students will practice reading the phrases and story as much as necessary. Students will listen to the reading of the phrases and the story.
- Students will practice reading poetry to build fluency.
Guided Reading
- Students will practice reading at their instructional level while practicing the skills that have been taught in isolation.
Controlled Text / Decodable Text
- The students will be able to read through a controlled text /decodable passage utilizing known strategies and sounds. Individual read, choral read, round robin read for fluency practice
