Please practice sight words nightly! This is crucial in helping them to become little readers.

Welcome to Mrs. Mains Rootin Tootin Cowboys website. This a great way to learn more about what your child is learning in class each day. My goal is to develop a positive relationship with you and your child and to provide a fun and creative learning environment. Each week I will update the skills that your child will be learning in class. Please practice the skills with your child and review the work that they bring home from school. Please be sure to read with your child each night and encourage your child to read the words that they know so they can become fluent readers. If you need anything please contact me at school or by email at [email protected].

Classroom Expectations

The first few weeks of school we will be working on developing our classroom learning environment. We will be practicing social distancing and hand washing throuhgout our day! We will be focusing on classroom rules and expectations so that all of the students are able to have a terrific day of learning. I will let parents know daily how their child is doing and how well they are working in class with myself and their classmates Please be sure to check your child's planner each day for classroom inormation and your child's accomplishments each day!

Language Arts

We will begin the year by learning letters and sounds. Students will learn vocabulary words for each of the letters we learn in class. We will learn both upper and lowercase letters and how to correctly form each of the letters. We will  work on identifying words that begin with each letter and learning new vocabulary words for each of the letters. Students will learn how to identify the letters, produce the sounds of each letter, and begin to blend CVC (3 letter words). This is the beginning stage of reading. As the children begin to learn the letters and sounds they will learn that when the letters are put together they make words. Each week we will be learning new sight words so that your child can become a more fluent reader. Please practice sight words with your child each night at home as part of their homework. My goal is to begin formal reading groups by the third  week of school. This will give your child the opportunity to read with me each day and develop their sight word vocabulary. It will always be my goal to enrich your child, so as they learn new words I will continue to send additional words home for them to practice. The more familiar they become with learning their sight words the sooner they will be reading AR books at home to you! Our class goal will be to become the best readers we can be and have a great time while doing it!

We have also started reading our little Read Well readers and the kids are doing a great job reading the stories and learning new sight words.
