For Parents
Here is some extra information that might come in handy during the year.
Caloosa Elementary Race Team Dress Code
Bottoms: Navy Blue or Khaki pants (not baggy), shorts (finger tip length or longer), skort, pleated jumper (plain), or skirts
Tops: Red, White, Blue, Pink, or Yellow short or long sleeved golf style, button down collared, blouse, cardigan sweater, pullover v-neck, crew-neck, or turtle neck
Shoes: athletic type or dress shoes with closed toes and backs (no sandals, flip flops, or skate shoes).
NO JEANS, MAKE-UP, BANDANAS, GLITTER, ARTIFICIAL FINGERNAILS, TATTOOS, COLOR HAIR GEL, OR GEL BRACELETS ARE PERMITTED.

Caloosa School Spirit T-Shirt Days
Caloosa Spirits shirts can be worn on Fridays along with uniform bottoms.
Spirit shirts can be purchased at the school store or in the office.
ABC's of 1st Grade

A is for:
Attendance-
learning and fun take place everyday! Please make sure your child comes to school on time (7:55)
except in cases of illnesses or emergencies.
B is for:
Birthdays-
if you wish to send in a treat for your child's birthday, the school asks that you do so during our lunch time, 11:44-12:10
Box Tops-
our school is collecting "Box Tops for Education" and each label is worth 10 cents...it adds up very quickly-for each 25 collected your child can earn a no uniform pass.
C is for:
Communication-
communication between school and home is very important for your first grader. Feel free to contact the school or send a note in your child's planner or even by email ([email protected], )
D is for:
Dismissal-
school ends at 2:10 on full school days and 12:10 on early dismissal days. If your child is to go home a different way than the normal manner- YOU MUST SEND IN A WRITTEN NOTE.
I am unable to take the child's word for it.
E is for:
Emergencies-
The school may need to contact you in case of an emergency. If your phone number or address change, please notify me right away. This is very important. There is a form available in the office.
F is for:
Family-
The students and teachers spend a lot of time together and consider one another part of a 'school family'. Please ask your child specific questions about their day at school each evening.
G is for:
Grades-
Graded papers will be sent home in the communication envelopes as permitted by the school district. Some assessments will be kept at school and are able to be viewed if you would like.
H is for:
Homework-
Your child may have homework Monday through Thursday. It will usually be spelling, reading, and/or math. Homework is a reinforcement of the skills taught in class. Please check their homework with them when they have finished it. Also as an unwritten assignment-they are to read at least 20 minutes each and every night (7 days a week).
I is for:
Important Papers-
Important notices will be sent home periodically. Please check their communication envelope, planner, or teacher-sent email on a daily/weekly basis.
J is for:
Job Well Done-
Each month the child that demonstrates consistent homework completion, improving assessments, exemplary behavior will be chosen as our 'Student of the Month'. Please encourage your child to fulfill those requirements to become ours.
K is for:
Kindness-
I expect everyone to treat each other with kindness. Treat others as you wish to be treated.
L is for:
Lunch-
Our lunch for this year is from 11:44-12:10.
M is for:
Money-
If you are sending money in with your child, please send it in an envelope with his/her name on it and the reason. Place it in the pouch of their planner so they will not lose it.
N is for:
Newsletters-
I may be sending home a newsletter. It will have the spelling words, vocabulary words and skills that are focused on during each concept. You can put this on the refrigerator so that your child can look at those words and skills each day.
O is for:
Organization-
Good organization habits needs to begin in first grade. To help keep your child organized through the year, I will be giving them things that need to go home and be returned with your signature. Their planner is a great way to keep them on track and it must be brought to school each and every day with your signature.
P is for:
Practice-
Just like any other thing you expect to be good at, the skills learned in school need to be practiced. Please provide time at home for your child to practice their math facts, phonograms, reading, spelling words, and vocabulary words.
PTO-
The PTO is the school's Parent Teacher Organization. It is a way to promote and support communication between home, school, and the community. They help raise money that benefits the students.

Questions or concerns-
Please do not hesitate to contact me by note in planner, quick email, or phone call.
R is for:
Reading-
We will be doing a lot of reading in first grade. Please allow time for your child to read books with you. Read books to them that are above their comfort level to give them experience with more advanced levels. Share with them the love of reading.
S is for:
Scholastic Book Clubs-
Your child will be bring home book order forms this year, on a monthly basis. This is a great way to purchase books inexpensively, while helping our class earn points toward other items!
T is for:
Talking-
Talking to friends about feelings and ideas is an important part of the learning process. There are, however, appropriate and inappropriate times to talk. I understand that breaking rules about talking may seem less important than others, but I encourage you to support me in the enforcement of this rule, because it does affect your child's learning as well as children around them.
U is for:
Unique-
I believe each and every child is unique in his or her own way. Therefore, they each learn differently. I will then be focusing on find out their preferred way of learning then provide instruction to your child in that manner. So please be aware that there will be many ways that I will be teaching.
V is for:
Volunteer-
If you would like to volunteer in the school, please fill out the form that your child brings home at the beginning of the year or you can stop in the office for one.
W is for:
Writing-
Reading and writing are closely linked. We will be writing both expository and narrative essays this year, containing up to 3 paragraphs. We will be trying hard to learn the correct uses of punctuation and grammar too.
X, Y, Z are for:
I am eXcited to work with You and Your child this year! Make sure he/she gets plenty of ZZZZZZ's each night as we have exciting and full days planned for this year.
