Course Description:

⁕      This course was designed to assist students with exploring careers and developing skills necessary to make meaningful decisions about their career choice. Students will be made aware that there are many factors to consider before selecting a suitable career. This course will assist the students in assessing their personal strengths and weaknesses as they relate to career decisions. This course will aid the student in developing strategies to make an effective transition from school to work. The student will be able to recognize that career enhancements and career changes are common and that they need to be prepared with the proper tools, resources, and guidance to make informed decisions about their career choice throughout their lifetime.  Foundations in Personal Finance will also be offered in this class.  This program empowers students with knowledge and application of basic financial principles so that they can make sound financial decisions for life.

⁕       Students will be completing the requirements for taking the WorkKeys test, a RPSB graduation requirement.  This will include completing the CareerReady 101 coursework online.

  • Students will explore and understand the framework of the Louisiana Career Education (LCE) model.
  • Students will understand the Foundation Knowledge and Skills and how they apply to each cluster and to educational and career success.
  • Students will participate in Career Exploration activities.
  • Students will access and utilize different types of Career Information.
  • Students will recognize the variety of Postsecondary Options available.
  • Students will express the purpose of, as well as, be able to apply financial mathematics concepts.

Education for Careers Grading Scale

  • 100-93 = A
  •   92-85 = B
  •   84-75 = C
  •   74-67 = D

Policy for making up missed work/NO EXCEPTIONS

•     Assignments due on the date of a school activity must be turned in prior to leaving class or campus; if not, the student’s work will be considered LATE and points are deducted.

•     Assignments missed because of an unexcused absence or a suspension can be made up, but the highest grade possible will be a 67. (It is better than a zero).

•     Work assigned prior to an excused /unexcused absence is due on the date the student returns or on the due date.

•     If an exam is scheduled and the student is absent the day before the test, the student is still responsible for taking the exam on the assigned date.

•     For excessive absences before an exam, the student must make-up the exam within one week of his or her return to school.

 

CLASSROM RULES

  1. Each student is expected to follow the guidelines for discipline in the Buckeye High and the Rapides Parish handbooks.
  2. THE TEACHER AND OTHER STUDENTS ARE TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT IN THE CLASSROOM.
  3. NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOM.
  4. NO CELL PHONES, I PODS OR FLASH DRIVES ARE ALLOWED TO BE PLUGGED IN TO THE COMPUTERS.  These will be taken and turned in to the office.
  5. It is the student’s responsibility to ask about missed tests or assignments if you are absent.  Make-ups will be given at the teacher’s discretion.
  6. Everyone is expected to pay attention and participate in class—no sleeping will be allowed and no excessive talking will be tolerated.

 

CHEATING

Cheating is stealing another student’s work.  The student who copied and the student who allowed the assignment to be copied will both receive a ZERO on that assignment.  Parents and the school administration will be notified.  Protect your work!

 

DISCIPLINE POLICY

If any of the above inappropriate behavior occurs, the following discipline procedures will be followed. Behavior problems will NOT be tolerated in the classroom.

                  First offense:                Verbal Warning

                  Second offense:            Conference with the teacher and a lunch detention

                  Third offense:               Contact with parent and a lunch detention

                  Fourth offense:             Discipline Referral to Administration    

 

COMPUTER RULES

If a student finds something missing or wrong with their computer he/she should report it immediately to the teacher.  Students are not to change the desktop unless that assignment is given.
