Course Description:

Student learning will focus on Louisiana History from its beginnings through the present, as well as, Louisiana Government and its relationship to the federal government. Additionally students will apply and understand; economic concepts, geographical information, natural resources and the challenges facing Louisiana today. The following is a guideline of the order in which the class will be taught.

4th Semester

Chapter 13 Louisiana's Huey Long Era

Chapter 14 Louisiana from 1940 to 1972: Politics, War, and Civil Rights

Materials:

4 -  Single Subject Notebooks (One for each 9 weeks)

Pencils, Pens (blue or black ink), highlighters, and colored pencils (items will be kept in binder)

Section for Louisiana History in Binder

1 -  bottle of Elmer’s Glue (turn into Ms. McCrory)

$3.00 Louisiana History Fee (paid to first hour teacher)


Wishlist: The following items that can be donated for class use, but are not required. Please turn these items into Ms. McCrory

Loose leaf paper, copy paper, pencils (wooden or mechanical), lead for mechanical pencils, erasers, colored pencils, or individually wrapped candy not containing peanuts (will be used to reward students when playing Kahoot).

 

Grades:

There will be a minimum of seven grades each nine weeks. Grades will be based on daily class work/homework grades, bellringers grades, vocabulary tests, chapter tests, and projects. Daily class work/homework checks will be averaged together to equal one test grade each nine weeks. Students will be given time in class to complete most of their assignments, but if the assignment isn’t completed in class it will become homework. The bell ringers will be checked at the end of the week, and averaged together to equal one test grade. Both class work/homework and bell ringer grades will start at the beginning of the semester with a 100/A, and points will be deducted for missing assignments. The RPSB grading scale will be followed ( A = 93-100, B= 85-92, C= 75-84, D=67-74, F= 0-66).

 

MAKE-UP WORK:

It is the student’s responsibility to contact the teacher regarding make-up work. Students will have the same number of days to make-up missed assignments, as they were absent. If the make-up work is not completed by that time, the student will receive a zero for the missed work. If the absence falls on a test date student may be required to take the test the day he/she returns to school and should be prepared.

 

Technology:

Students must use technology in accordance with the RPSB, and students found in violation will receive a state referral. Students are responsible for taking care of the technology they are given in class, and are not allowed to alter any settings. Students are not allowed to use cellphones in class unless instructed by Ms. McCrory. Students found in possession of a cell phone will have the cell phone confiscated by Ms. McCrory in accordance to RPSB policy.


Emergencies:

Students must remain quiet during an emergency, and follow Ms. McCrory’s instructions.

Emergency procedures will follow the RPSB, and BHS policies. Students will be taught what to  do during an emergency, and will be given several opportunities throughout the school year to practice the procedures.Parents can refer to the RPSB, and BHS handbook for specific procedures.


Classroom Expectations

PRIDE, INTEGRITY, RESPECT

 

·         Be in seat with materials ready to begin when the tardy bell rings.

 

·         Keep classroom area clean.

 

·         Keep noise level down.

 

·         Participate in classroom activities in an orderly, respectful manner.

 

·         Keep food and drinks outside of the classroom. No gum allowed.


Discipline Process

Minor infractions:

1st offense – Conference with student and restate behavioral expectations. Fill our minor infraction form and have student initial it.

 

2nd offense – Parent contacted about behavior. Fill out minor infraction form and have student initial it.

 

3rd offense – Fill out minor infraction from and have student initial it. Student will be issued a lunch detention.

 

4th offense – Office referral sent with minor infraction form attached. School Administrator will deal with the referral, and disciplinary action of student.


Major infractions will be handled immediately with a state referral and removal from classroom.

 

Classroom Procedures

 

Entering the classroom:

1.  Enter quietly and orderly and begin bell ringer activity that can be found on the board.

2.  Sharpen two pencils if necessary and get out materials needed for class.

3.  Student must be in seat when tardy bell rings or students will be considered tardy.

 

End of class dismissal:

1.  Gather your materials when instructed by the teacher.

2.  Remove any excess paper from your desk and off the floor around your desk. Throw excess paper away in the trash can by the door as you leave.

3.  Paper should never be wadded up in the classroom.

4.  Folders and notebooks should be cleaned out at home.

5.  Ms. McCrory will dismiss students by rows.

 

Seating Assignments:

1.  Students are to sit in their assigned seat each day.

2.  A seating chart will be left for substitute teachers.

 

Asking a question or leaving your seat:

1.  Raise your hand and wait to be acknowledged by the teacher before speaking.

2.  The teacher will respond to you as quickly as possible.

3.  Use this procedure if you need to leave your seat.

4.  Do not leave your seat without permission.

5.  Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom unless it is an emergency.

 

Classroom visitors:

1. For classroom safety, Ms. McCrory’s door will remain locked at all times.

2. No one will be allowed to enter into the classroom without Ms. McCrory’s permission.

3.  Students do not make comments to anyone entering or leaving classroom.

4.  Students are to continue working quietly when a visitor is in the room.

5. Ms. McCrory will acknowledge the visitor and contact a student if the information pertains to him or her.

 

Collection of materials:

1. When directed by the Ms. McCrory, students will pass their assignments up their row and she will collect them.

 

Completion of work during class:

1.  Students should follow the daily agenda that will be written on the board each day and complete assignments in order unless instructed by Ms. McCrory.

2.  Students should write neat and clearly on all of their assignments.

3.  Students that complete their work early are to work on the “Early finisher activity” from the daily agenda.

 

Class work/Homework Assignments and Tests:

1.  All assignments will be written on the board and posted on Parent Connect. Students will be given time to complete their assignments in class, and will only have homework if they did not finish their class assignment.

2.  Students are responsible for writing their assignments down on Mondays. I will post all assignments for the entire week on the board on Mondays. I will also check every Monday that the student has written their assignment down.

3.  Homework is excused only with an excused absence from school, and is to be made up within a reasonable amount of time.

4.  Louisiana History Tests will be given every Thursday unless changed by teacher.

 

Going to and from activities:

1.  Line up quietly and orderly.

2.  Walk in a single file line.

3.  Return to class using the same procedure.

 

Intercom:

1.  Do not say anything when the intercom comes on.

2.  The teacher will respond to the person on the intercom.
