WELCOME TO LANGUAGE ARTS
As we explore literature you will continue to develop your natural analytical, interpretive, and critical skills to be appropriate for more formal circumstances. In your sopohomore year, you will identify the context during which a literary work is created to better understand why some writing seems to be 'behind the times,' but has stood the 'test of time,' for its universal themes, masterful character development, use of literary techniques or genre.
READING AND RESEARCH
Take every opportunity to read outside of class by purchasing personal copies of the readings so that you have free reign to annotate and engage the written work in preparation to write essays. If you do not own a library card from the Jersey City Public Library, you are missing the opportunity to borrow e-copies of texts free of charge. IF YOU ARE ABSENT
Visit Google Classroom for most assignments. Please use the access code that your teacher provided to you. You have (1) school day for each day you are absent to turn in work, even if it is a unexcused absence. This includes quizzes and tests but does not include group projects.
Quarantining/Remote Learning
If we need to follow a remote class schedule, you will attend Google Meets during your assigned class time by logging into the right section of the class.
Homework Policy
The collection of homework is staggered throughout the school week, however, each assignment requires at least twenty minutes of your attention everyday.
Assigned- Monday Turn in- Wednesday
Assigned-Wednesday Turn in- Friday
Assigned Thursday Turn in- the following Tuesday
10 or more unexcused late arrivals and/or absences requires students to attend the after-school credit recovery program to complete missed assignments.
GRADING POLICY
Please review the Jersey City district grading policy that every teacher, across grade levels, follows. In addition, check Infinite Campus for grades on assignments. At least one time per marking period, you will receive a grade sheet that your parent will sign and resubmit for a quiz grade. Here is the grade policy:
