Mrs. Wheatley’s 6th/7th Grade Math:  2023-2024

Welcome to math class!  Here are some guidelines on how to be successful this year.  I believe that ongoing communication between parents, teachers and students will prevent future problems throughout the school year.

Course Description

Savvas Realize is the math series that we use; students have their own user id and password.  Most tests and quizzes are done online through the math website.

All students are responsible for bringing to class their Envision Math Workbook, notebook, pencils, erasers, & Dry Erase markers.

My Grades are calculated as follows:

Tests 40%, Quizzes 30%, Skill Reviews 20%, Stem Project 10%

Homework

Homework is assigned every day (except Friday) in Google Classroom.  I do not take points off for missing homework, nor is it part of your grade.  Homework is encouraged, but you aren't penalized if it is missing.  I understand that issues arise when students can’t do their homework, my advice is to always try to complete it when time allows.

Successful Tips

Do your homework every night and self check with the attached answer keys.

Do not rush through your homework.  Taking time to understand what you’re doing will pay off in the future.  A good practice is to always review your math notes/homework even if homework was completed in class.

Math Facts, Math Facts, Math Facts!!!  I cannot stress this enough! All students  should know basic addition/subtraction facts and multiplication facts through 12.  My website has links to many resources for practicing.  I always say that math facts are just as important as learning the ABC’s of reading.

Practice IXL whenever possible.  The IXL program is skill based and will give an explanation if a problem is answered wrong.

I hope I’ve provided you with a good overview of my program.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email at [email protected] or leave me a voicemail (908)475-4773 ext. 3350.
