Mrs. M. Zelenka, Science Educator at Memorial High School

Research shows positive parent-teacher partnership benefits the student. For me, communication is best facilitated through email. If I have the parent/guardian’s email address, I can communicate about progress in class much easier.

Mrs. M. Zelenka’s Science Classroom Policies
Every class has a Google Classroom page. Parent/guardians are also invited to join the Google Classroom. Email me for the Google Classroom code or have your student share the code with you. Google Classroom is a great way to keep up with assignments and what is being taught in class.
A note about Progress Reports and Report Cards: Please pay attention to the comment as much as the grade. I put a lot of thought into the comment so you have a way to know how your student is doing in class. “Request Parent Visit” comment usually indicates a failing grade and is alerting you that action needs to be taken to aid the student.
Students must come to class on time.
Consequence: You will receive one late warning. The second time and every time thereafter, you will be issued a tardy and detention after school.
Students must come prepared to class will all course materials (textbook, science folder, science notebook and writing utensil).
Consequence: Not being prepared for class will result in a lower grade.
Repeat offenders: Parent and Guidance Counselor Conference.
No unauthorized electronic devices are to be used in the class room.
Cell phones can be useful and a great distraction. Please know that if a cell phone is being used without the consent of the classroom teacher, it will be taken away and given to the disciplinarian as per the student hand book.
Consequence: The appropriate disciplinarian will be contacted to take the item away.
Do not interrupt or disrupt course instruction.
Consequence: 1) Verbal warning. 2) Student remains after class. 3) Disciplinary report.
4) Sent directly to disciplinarian. SEVERE OFFENSE: Sent directly to disciplinarian's office.

-
Quizzes
-
4 – 5 / marking period. Generally between 5 - 25 points per quiz.
-
Projects/Labs/Activities
-
1-2 / marking period. Projects are worth a lot of points/ marking period. Generally 50-100 points.
-
Homework

-
Class participation
-
Assignments given and completed in class. Assignments given when I am absent are considered class participation. Also concidered when giving class participation grade is; active participation, complete notebook, course materials complete. Class participation grades are meant to help and boost grades.
I offer one chance at a redo on all assignments. Students have to let me know that they would like to redo a test, quiz, project or homework and then a due date is given.
All late work will be marked, but given the grade of a 65. Late work will not be accepted after the date that is 2 weeks from the end of the marking period.
Extra credit is given when a student has done all of their work and would like a chance to raise their grade even more. This is just a way for me to gauge how well the extra credit assignment was done. Extra credit points will be added to the final grade and an adjustment will be made at the end of the marking period.
If you have questions or concerns about your grade, make an appointment with me or email me to discuss it.
