Rules and Procedures
-
RESPECT- we will discuss this often in class.
-
Be on time and come prepared (Bring pen AND pencil, and binder with paper)
-
DO NOT bring- a cell phone (it MUST be turned off and away- in your locker or it will be confiscated).
Rewards for Cooperation
*A student who demonstrated leadership by being kind, helpful, or simply respectful, he/ she will be rewarded with certificates, extra credit points, stickers, etc.
**Students always have opportunities throughout the year by showing good classroom citizenship, winning review games, and completing extra credit assignments or tasks.
Course Requirements
Objectives/ Goals/ Do Now:
Step 1: Put bookbags in the cubbies.
Step 2: Proceed to assigned seat, take out binder and WRITE the date, the OBJECTIVE and the DO NOW. (Note: SWBAT means “Students will be able to…”, and it represents my goals for each lesson)
Step 3: DO the Do Now! (It may be a question, task, or something else).
Class Participation: Ask questions, answer questions, be curious, include yourself in the class discussion. At the end of the marking period, if your grade is on the border, these factors will determine (for ex.) an 89 becoming an A- rather than a B+ .
Classwork / Homework:
*Classwork and Homework go hand-in-hand. They will be assigned in different ways, such as Google Classroom, handouts, or worksheets that go with projects. Due dates will be issued with the assignment.
*All handouts will be placed in the red folder each week, organized by day (Monday -Friday).
*I DO NOT ACCEPT LATE ASSIGNMENTS (unless the student is absent when the assignment is checked/ or on a school trip).
*Assignments are graded differently, depending on the type of assignment.
Weekly Quiz:
*You will have quizzes each week.
*A quiz is short and sweet, 5-10 questions. Some quizzes are “Do Now” quizzes, where you simply have to copy the Do Now to get a 100! Stay organized to get 100 on these quizzes.
Tests:
-
You will ALWAYS be given 2-3 class periods notice (if you are absent that day, you must make up the test, and make arrangements ASAP).
-
There are different ways to study. Attend Knight Club, go on to Google classroom, ask questions, read notes, and review the material regularly.
-
A test is based on notes, discussion in class, and quiz questions.
Projects & Activities:
*Projects and Activities will be graded separately from homework, quizzes, and tests.
*Each project or activity will have a deliverable (something you must hand in to get a grade, like a set of questions, a report, presentation, etc.).
*Most projects will come with a rubric so you know how the assignment will be graded.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS / MAKE-UP TEST ETC.
*If you have an excused absence, you have as many days as you were absent to make up the work. For ex., if you miss three days, bring your note on the fourth day, and you will have until the 3rd class period after you return to make up your assignment. This rule applies to homework and labs.
*If you decide to get lazy and not complete assignments, not participate in activities, etc., you may NOT submit late work. It is unfair to your peers who are working diligently to stay on top of their grades. You owe it to yourself to earn that “A” every day!
*IMPORTANT- If you are absent the day of the test, you MUST take the test the DAY you come back. The only exception is if you are absent the whole time we learn the chapter, then you have extra time, but YOU are responsible for scheduling a time to make it up. I will work with you to assist in the completion of the assignments.
Grading Policy:
PROJECTS = 40%
TESTS = 25%
QUIZZES = 20%
CLASSWORK/ HOMEWORK = 10%
PARTICIPATION = 5%
