French level2

Bonjour, France!

I am your child French teacher at Memorial High School and my  goal is to convey the French  language learning through an intensive total immersion program . For doing so, I will implement French as the main and sole language spoken in class along my instruction and teaching and l will re-articulate in English only when necessary . The learning activities are designed to be fun and engaging within the context of learning the language through substantial interaction between the students and myself as  a French native spaeker and in interpersonal and presentional mode as well. In addition to classroom instruction, students will enjoy a number of extracurricular activities related to the language.

Culture- diversité-tolerance
In my class, lesson of tolerance will be imbued through class interactions and activities.

The main emphases:

1)  Students will listen, read, and write in a single task; also, students listen, read, and speak to perform tasks

For example:  students listen to and take extensive notes on a two-minute long interview with a French scientist, read a 300-word article on a related topic, and then write a 50-word essay synthesizing the content of both the interview and the text, citing the text at least once.

2 /
For the year 2023-2024,the curriculum of our Educational Program in the Small Learning Program, meets or exceeds the learning requirements in the areas of Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies & French. All subjects are integrated & taught   to provide curricular leadership & units.

Through the undderstanding of language and culture, conversations and activities will be held in class to bridge cultural divide and try to dispel stereotypes and bias students may have.

Les Cultures autour du monde

Nowadays, the globalisation of our economy and the  overseas careers and jobs all require an understanding of how culture impacts on the management and development.
As companies increasingly operate internationally, whether from a home base or offices around the globe, they are faced with the challenging task of appointing employees able to work comfortably and effectively in multinational environments or on international assignments. Not only must our students have the appropriate technical skills required for the job; more importantly, to interact effectively with colleagues from different cultural backgrounds and to deal with different workplace cultures and structures. international assignees need to possess a unique combination of personal and interpersonal competencies to  communicate across cultural differences successfully

The French Class evolves around:

  • Communication: Interpersonal mode
  • Culture: research and project by power point show
  • Comparaison: Our country compared to abroad
  • Communities: Paris, Montreal, Dakar, Casablanca and West New York
  • Connection: comparaison and contrasts in terminology and morphology.

At times failure is an opportunity to try again. Upon request and per appointment, students have the ability to re-take assessments. The re-takes must be scheduled with me during ELO, or at the testing center and MUST be done within 1 week of the student receiving their graded assessment. The re-take grade will completely replace the original grade. In order for a student to have the opportunity to redo or retake an assessment in my class, students must make corrections and meet with me. Grading Procedures:

Grades are mainly a reflection of the students willingness and effort in participating in and accomplishing the goals and objectives set for the class. The student will earn a grade for formal and informal assessments (tests, quizzes, projects); they will earn a grade for assignments (homework, research projects, and communication activities), and they will receive a grade for classroom. The three components willbe combined for the class grade.

• Classwork grades 25 % of the total grade,

• Quiz grades 25 % of the total grade,

. In class thematic project : 25% ( a team work)

. tests 25 % of the total grade.

Informal assessments such as projects and presentations are focused on effort and improvement of the individual student. Class participation is vital to the student's grade. Students are expected to participate in activities so they can grow in this new adventure. Unexcused tardies and absences are unacceptable and will directly affect their participation grade and, if continued, will result in parental and administrative intervention. School-related and excused absences however are understandable and student will have to report to me during my preparation time  to ensure that your he catches up on what  he has missed and that he is  given what he needs to perform along with the others. But he must be willing to work with me.

Students will be rewarded as they take the initiative to participate, assist others, and help the class to run smoothly.
