4th GRADE SYLLABUS

Goals

Throughout the school year, students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their learning and personal belongings, complete assignments carefully and on time, demonstrate respect for classmates, teachers, and all school staff, follow classroom and school expectations, and give their best effort each day.

Homework & Study Habits

Homework is an important part of developing responsibility, organization, and effective study habits. Homework will generally be assigned daily. Homework will be posted on the board each day. It is the student’s responsibility to record assignments accurately and gather all necessary materials.

Missing or Incomplete Homework

Homework is checked daily in class. Students who have incomplete or partially completed homework will lose a CAM point and complete a reflection essay, unless a legitimate written excuse from a parent or legal guardian is provided.

Behavior & Discipline

We believe students learn best in a classroom that is respectful, safe, and positive. Students will be taught, reminded of, and expected to follow classroom and school expectations throughout the year.

Grading & Academic Progress

Students will be assessed throughout the school year using a variety of assignments, classwork, projects, quizzes, tests, and other assessments. The four core subject areas are English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Each subject is divided into two grading categories. Formative assessments (40%) help teachers monitor student understanding throughout the learning process. Summative assessments (60%) measure student learning following instruction. Students will receive at least nine grades per subject during each nine-week grading period, including a minimum of: 5 Formative Grades and 4 Summative Grades.

Effective communication between home and school is an important part of student success. If you need to contact either teacher, please use: Email or ClassDojo Messaging. Please allow up to 48 hours for a response to emails. Messages received outside of school hours will be answered on the next school day. For student-related questions or concerns, please contact us directly through email or ClassDojo rather than through social media platforms such as Facebook.
