About the teacher:teacher selfie

My name is Karen Davenport.  I began teaching in Livingston Parish in 2004. I have been blessed to teach a variety of grade levels and locations throughout the parish. I love teaching and seeing students learn new skills, knowledge and understandings. If you ask me, my job is fun!!! This is my first year as Walker High's assistant principal. Previously, I taught Spanish and Bible as Literature at Walker High and Spanish for several years at Walker Freshman High. I hold certifications in Pre-k through twelfth grade. I even taught adult ESL classes at the public library and English classes for the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women.

I grew up in Livingston and graduated from Doyle High School.  I graduated from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  My minor was in Spanish. I completed a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in English as a second language from Southeastern Louisiana University.

In my free time, I love to read, write, sing, listen to music, and cook.  I also love walking and exploring.  Traveling is one of my passions, and I do not do it nearly enough.  I went to Mexico fives times.  I also traveled to Australia and Rwanda.  In 1999, I went to Australia to be trained to teach English as a Second Language.  In the summer of 2006, I went to Rwanda to teach ESL to college students. I also taught English to seminary inmates at the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women. It was quite a blessing. My husband and I also love taking cruises. My favorite cruises was to Alaska. I even returned to Alaska to visit Fairbanks. One of my bucket list goals is to visit all seven continents. So far, I have visited five.
