GEOMETRY CP
5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I
This course is designed to teach deductive reasoning and thinking skills. Emphasis is placed on mathematical statements and the use of postulates, definitions, and theorems. Topics covered include congruence, similarity, parallelism, perpendicularity, area, volume, and construction. Geometry emphasizes the logical application of rules to solve problems. Real life examples are used to show the relevance of course content. The goal for this course is mastery of Geometry.
GEOMETRY HONORS
5 credits
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Algebra I Honors with an exceptional Algebra 1 Benchmark score.
Geometry Honors is designed for those students who have been particularly successful in the honors math program. The goal for this course is mastery of Geometry and a greater preparedness for more challenging math courses.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT STATISTICS
5 credits
Prerequisite: A grade of B or better in Algebra II with teacher recommendation.
The purpose of the AP course in statistics is to introduce students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing and drawing conclusions from data. Students are exposed to four broad conceptual themes:
-
Exploring Data: Describing patterns and departures from patterns
-
Sampling and experimentation: Planning and conducting a study
-
Anticipating Patterns: Exploring random phenomena using probability and simulation
-
Statistical Inference: Estimating population parameters and testing hypotheses. Students who successfully complete the course and exam may receive credit, advanced placement or both for a one-semester introductory college statistics course.
