 Welcome!

A little about myself...

This is my 20th year teaching at Pinelands. I began teaching in 1995...I will let you do the math. My greatest joy is working with the students and getting to know them. In class, my goal is to create a community that allows students to feel comfortable to make mistakes (mathmatically & personally) and learn from those mistakes. I am here to assist in any way I can. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns throughout the year.

I am looking forward to a great year!

 Course Description

This course is designed to teach deductive reasoning and thinking skills. Emphasis is placed on mathematical statements and the use of postulates, definitions, and theorems. The general topics that are covered include congruence, similarity, parallel, perpendicular, area, volume, and constructions. Geometry emphasizes the logical application of rules to solve problems.

Course Expectations

The expectation for this course is that all students will become better problem solvers by interweaving skills, concepts, and word problems associated with geometry. This course will prepare students for standardized tests with questions that are aligned in format, content, and design to those found on today’s high stakes assessments as well as prepare them for continuing study in mathematics. It will also strengthen their ability to work in a collaborative way and reinforce basic math skills while building higher level mathematical concepts.

 Grading Policy

HONORS GEOMETRY GRADING POLICY

Grades will be calculated using a weighted system. During marking period 1 & 3, Summative Assessments will account for 80% of the marking period grade. The remainin g 20% will be calculated by using Formative Assessments.

Summative Assessments include quizzes, tests and projects.

Formative Assessments include classwork and homework. Classwork and homework grades are based on completion. In other words, the work shown does not have to be correct to receive full credit.

If a student does not pass a Summative Assessement (<65%) they will have the opportunity to retake the assessment for a maximum grade of 65%. Retakes must be completed after school.
