Homework Tips for Second Grade Students

 

     1.  Regular designated place and time for homework.

 

2. Students should do homework independently.  Parents should check and review when student has completed.

 

3.     Listen to students read orally and ask questions about what they are reading.  (Who, what, when, where, and how questions may be helpful.)

 

4.     Review vocabulary words daily – both new and previously learned words.

 

5.     Make flashcards with problem words.  Review.

 

6.     Be available for questions.

 

7.     Read orally to children to model fluent reading skills.

 

8.     Encourage children to read for pleasure.  Let them see you reading and enjoying good books.

 

9.     Review phonics skills and quiz spelling words frequently.

 

10.When graded papers are sent home, review mistakes.
