Hello! Let me tell you a little about myself!
I am a native Georgian. I grew up and went to public school in Savannah. I graduated from Windsor Forest High. I knew from an early age that I loved art. In high school, I had a great art teacher named Mrs. Thorne. It was then that I first thought that I might want to teach art some day.
I began college at the University of Georgia as a Social Work major, but soon changed to Art. After a few years, I decided to move to Atlanta, so I transferred to Kennesaw State University. That is where I got a Bachelor degree in Studio Art.
I started working at a copy and print center called Kinko's while living in Athens, and continued to work there in Atlanta. I became an assistant manager, and considered it as a career, but realized after a few years that my passion was still with art, and I wanted more than ever to teach art. I moved back to Savannah and got a teaching certification in Art at Armstrong State University.
In 2007, I got my first teaching job at the AWESOME LEWIS FRASIER MIDDLE SCHOOL, and I have been teaching art here ever since. I feel grateful that I wound up at such a top-quality, caring institution. Although teaching is not an easy career, the rewards of working with so many SMART, TALENTED, KIND students (and faculty) make up for the problems and stresses that go along with such an important job.
In 2008, I married my wonderful husband, and in 2011 we welcomed our beautiful daughter Aubrey. Becoming a Mom has rounded out my passion for teaching and made me even more glad that I chose this career, instead of managing a copy shop!
Also in 2011 I got my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Art from Armstrong State University. That was a busy year for me!
