Homework

A weekly agenda will be sent home on Monday of each week. Spelling word lists will be sent home in the spelling section of your child’s binder on Monday of each week.I do not assign a lot of homework. Homework is mostly studying and completing any independent work that the student did not finish during class time. I will have homework assignments written on the white board each day and the students will be responsible for copying their homework assignments in their planners. Written homework assignments will be checked, and an X may be given for assignments not completed.

Tests

Spelling: Tests on Friday. They will be tested on words with several dictation sentences.

Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies: Tests will vary depending on each unit. Advance notice will be given on the weekly agenda. Social Studies is taught during the fall semester and Science is taught during the spring semester.

Reading: Tests are usually every Friday unless we are reading novels or doing other projects. Please check the homework calendar often for updates.

Writing: Students will participate in many writing activities in third grade. Each child will complete at least one writing piece a week. Students will compile a writing portfolio of their writing throughout the year.

Graded Papers

Graded papers will be sent home on every Tuesday in a green folder. The folder will contain the student’s graded papers from the previous week. Please keep all the graded papers at home, sign the folder, and return it to school the following day.

Parties

We will have two parties this school year, a Winter Holiday party and a spring party. I will send party notes about two weeks before the celebration. If you are interested in coordinating one of these parties for our class, I would certainly appreciate it. Please email or send a note if you are interested.

Field Trips

We will have two field trips this year; one will be in the fall and the other will be in the spring. I will try to give 3-4 weeks advance notice so parents can make arrangements to help chaperone if desired.

Attendance

Please make every effort to have your child present and on time each school day. Being absent or late for school can affect a child’s ability to learn and perform to his/her potential. It is difficult for a student to make up missed class work. Help make this year a smooth and productive one by emphasizing attendance and punctuality. ***Many grades this year will come from class work, group work, participation in class, and observations made by the teacher. Therefore, it is very important that your child attend school regularly.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. Let’s make this the best year ever!
