LANGUAGE ARTS
Fundationsis a phonics program that enhances phonemic awareness skills through daily drills and word-building activities. It serves as the building blocks for reading.
Reading Street teaches a multitude of reading, spelling, and writing strategies centered around a story of the week. This story is used as a mentor text to teach specific skills. However, all of these skills are designed to help your child work towards becoming a rich, fluent reader.
Social Studies is infused into our Language Arts program. Each Reading Street story contains a Social Studies focus. We also read Scholastic News Articles, discuss current events, and celebrate holidays to teach Social Studies in class.
Sight Words are a collection of commonly used words that children are encouraged to memorize as a whole by sight. This is intended so they can automatically recognize these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode. We will learn the following sight words listed below:

This interactive website contains lessons that focus on central themes, which provides deep high-level discussion questions, supplemental reading materials, and exciting hands-on activities. We will cover one lesson per week.
