Classroom Policies and Procedures
✓ Reminder
This course is a requirement. Therefore, daily study and preparation time are required in order to be successful in this class. You are a middle school student, which means that you are responsible for your own actions and behaviors. This is a new and challenging course and all concepts build on previous material. This means that you must take this course seriously!
✓ Classroom Supplies
- Pencils
- Soft pencil case (has 3 rings so it will fit in binder)
- 1 ½ in. binder with filler paper
- Tab dividers (will be put in the binder to separate sections)
- Highlighter, red marking pen (Students will use pen for marking assignments.)
- Calculator (dollar store)
✓ Entering the Classroom
Be on time and in your seat when the bell rings. Begin the pre-class work activity as soon as you enter the classroom.
✓ Bell Activity (Pre-Class)
This is an assignment of 5 minutes at the beginning of class in order to review previous material or to prepare you for the upcoming lesson. Each day, the pre-class will be posted on the board before you enter the room. Upon arrival, you will be given a sheet of paper to complete the pre-class. Pre-class sheets will be collected and discussed. You will write the correct problem and answer in your binder.
✓ Tardies
If you are not in the classroom when the bell rings, you are considered tardy. You will be marked as tardy in Genesis and Class Dojo. Students who are just arriving at school or who have a note from another teacher for the tardiness will be excused. A student who is just checking in to school must have a pass from the office in order to enter the classroom and be excused.
✓ Turning in Assignments
You will be instructed to hand in assignments by the teacher.
✓ Homework Assignments
Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday. You will be graded for completing your homework. If homework is not completed on time, you will make up the work at lunch/recess of that day. An additional 20 points will also be deducted from the final grade.
✓ Group/Pair Work Activities
There will be a lot of group/pair work in this class. All students are expected to contribute to the assignment and to work collaboratively with the other student(s) in the group.
✓ Notebook Requirements
Each student is required to keep a 3-ring binder for this class. Your notebook will consist of the following categories:
- Homework Assignments
- Pre-Class
- Notes
- Exit Ticket/Student Reflection
- TTM Journal
All work should be placed chronologically in this notebook. At the end of each nine weeks, notebooks will be graded. The notebook grade will count as a test grade. To receive this grade, a notebook quiz will be given. I will randomly choose things from the notebook and ask students to tell me the question, answer, etc. from a certain activity. I will provide students with the dates. Thus, if things are in chronological order, they should be easy to locate. Well-organized notebooks are also very important for reference in your future Math classes.
✓ Restroom Procedures
Students may not use the restroom the first 10 minutes of class and the last 10 minutes. One student at a time is allowed to use the restroom, male or female.
✓ Absences and Make-Up Work
It is always the student’s responsibility to see the teacher and/or another student for missed assignments, notes, and/or tests. Even after checking the make-up work folder, the student should still talk with me in case I made an important announcement while he/she was absent, such as a major project being assigned. The number of days you are absent will be the number of days you have to make up the work. For example, if you are absent one day, you will have one day to make up the work. If you are absent 2 days, you will have 2 days to make up the work, etc…
✓ Late Work
Assignments should be turned in as the teacher asks for them. The due date for any major assignments and projects will be given in advance. I will only accept work that is one day late. Twenty points will be deducted for lateness. After one day, I will not accept the assignment. Work that is left at home, in another class, in your locker, etc. is considered late work.
✓ Cheating
Anyone caught cheating on any assignment will receive an automatic grade of 0. Cheating and plagiarism are absolutely unacceptable! Cheating also includes talking during and/or after a test. You do not receive a second chance if you are caught cheating. Students are expected to complete work individually unless otherwise instructed to work collaboratively.
✓ Visitors
If anyone enters the room, you should continue working as if no one were present. Your behavior will form an opinion of our class and I expect this opinion be a good one!!
✓ Attitude
Everyone is expected to have a positive attitude in this classroom!!! One negative attitude can change the upbeat and cheerful mind-set of this classroom. Be cooperative and work well with your classmates at all times (pair work, group work, sharing supplies, etc.).
✓ Participation
Everyone is expected to actively participate in class all discussions and activities.
✓ Teacher
My desk, files, closets, etc. should not be disturbed at any time unless you have my permission.
Rules and Expectations Form
I have read and understand with my student the rules and expectations for math this year. We understand the consequences of
student’s actions and know that the teacher is simply trying to make a fun and safe learning environment for every student.
